We cherish the speed of the seed. The magical unfolding and blossoming. These seedlings are only 2 months old. A durian tree takes up to 7 years to produce fruit from seed. But for uniformity, smaller stature, and early maturity, it is better to use clones produced by asexual methods such as grafting and budding. Our friend Peter Kring is the expert in the Caribe! Grateful for our teachers. 🌿
A butterfly. Transformation. And birthing eggs in our garden. We love observing the simple gifts of life. Happy Fall Equinox! May we trust the unknown with Grace and Faith.
Diversity. Color. Minerals from the eat. Eat and be the rainbow. Harvest from the base of “Chirripo” Mountain of eternal waters.
We are all part of this global #climatestrike. Sometime we wish all these kids who are striking would be planting trees instead of gathering in cities. But we all play our part of this climate crisis. @gretathunberg creates HOPE within me and inspires millions! @fridaysforfuture 🌱🌱 The jungles and tropics are the lungs of this earth. That is what brought us to Costa Rica. To plant trees. A dream of agroforestry and edible jungles replacing our broken monoculture devastating system. 🌴🌴 Nature would heal its self left untouched by humans. But with so many of us that populate this earth, we must work with nature. Reversing practices that were created by a selective few capitalist. 🌿🌿 We choose to be the problem or solution. What transitions have you made? What are you doing to be the change you want to see in the world?
Seeds are the foundation of life. 🌱🌱🌱We depend on them for food, for medicine and for our very survival. Seeds trace back to any given through culture. Seeds, once considered to be the property of all, like water or even air, seeds have become largely privatized, such that only a handful of companies now control the global food supply. Let’s protect seeds together. Plant trees. Make a seed bank. #plantseeds #exchangeseeds #seeds #seedbank #eatfruit #permaculture #foodforest #eatlocal #plantbased
Types of garden beds most commonly used in permaculture ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Many of us grow the bulk of our vegetables within an integrated, multi-layer food forest that also contains trees, shrubs, vines, soil-building projects, and animals. Some folks, depending on their circumstances, prefer to have an area designated for full-sun, annual and biennial vegetables. Either way, plants need a garden bed to grow in, and there are many styles to choose from. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Which is the best one? You'll need to decide that for yourself, based on your site and situation! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This chart, excerpted from the "Forests, gardens, and forest gardens." ・・・ #repost @permaculturewomen ⠀⠀
This sloth was hang on the wires with trees far from reach. We relocated him to a familiar tree near the beach. With deforestation and development of the tropics we are losing bio-quarters for the animals between forests. Solution : Plant trees. 🙌🏾 close the gap of devastation with trees that feed (food forests) and native species.
The lungs of the Earth are in flames. 🔥 The Brazilian Amazon—home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species—has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been 74,000 fires in the Brazilian Amazon since the beginning of this year—a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year (National Institute for Space Research, Brazil). Scientists and conservationists attribute the accelerating deforestation to President Jair Bolsonaro, who issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January. The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth’s warming in check. The Amazon needs more than our prayers. So what can YOU do? ✔ As an emergency response, donate to frontline Amazon groups working to defend the forest. ✔ Consider becoming a regular supporter of the Rainforest Alliance’s community forestry initiatives across the world’s most vulnerable tropical forests, including the Amazon; this approach is by far the most effective defense against deforestation and natural forest fires, but it requires deep, long-term collaboration between the communities and the public and private sectors. ✔ Stay on top of this story and keep sharing posts, tagging news agencies and influencers. ✔ Be a conscious consumer, taking care to support companies committed to responsible supply chains. Eliminate or reduce consumption of beef; cattle ranching is one of the primary drivers of Amazon deforestation. ✔ When election time comes, VOTE for leaders who understand the urgency of our climate crisis and are willing to take bold action—including strong governance and forward-thinking policy. #RainforestAlliance #SaveTheAmazon #PrayForAmazonia #AmazonRainforest #ActOnClimate #ForestsResist #ClimateCrisis 📸: @mohsinkazmitakespictures / Windy.com ・・・ #repost @rainforestalliance
A new peer-reviewed study published in the journal Environmental Research found that switching to an #organic diet significantly reduced the levels of synthetic pesticides found in all participants in just one week. On average, the pesticides detected dropped by 60.5% after six days of eating an all-organic diet. ・・・ #repost @only_organicguarantees
In the tropics life is vibrant in colors, patterns, and diversity. We have many garden crabs. 🌿 blessings
Costa Rica represented by Jungle Project with #Breadfruit Flour from #Agroforestry systems. ・・・ #repost @thefuturemkt Introducing The Biodiverse Shelf at MISTA in SF. 🌿🌏Featuring innovative brands and ingredients from around the globe, we built this shelf to give people a chance to taste & experiment with foods that support a more biodiverse food system. We are grateful to MISTA, an ecosystem enabling start-ups and established corporations to optimize ideas, products, people and investments, for the opportunity to bring this to life. #biodiversefood Link: http://thefuturemarket.com/the-biodiverse-shelf-mista
We toured Jungle Projects communities observing each ecosystem, it’s diversity, health of the trees, and all the life. This is a #breadfruit hijo (child). 🌿we love witnessing the abundance of the farmers, and the regeneration of tropics. 🍈 @gangulo184 @paulzink_ @dia_culinaria
Beautiful and inspiring story of love and abundance. Ana and Ian turned 10acres of cow pasture to a food forest. @greendreamsfl catches the magic of @fincatierra! 🌿 This beautiful Breadnut tree is right in the zone one kitchen garden of the farm. ・・・ WATCH @greendreamsfl https://youtu.be/hM5WO5vW00A
We have been feasting on fruit and planting seeds. Durian aka “King of Fruits” and Coffee are an excellent pairing 🌿 There is just something so special watching a seeds sprout and grow into a seedlings. Expanding its roots. Fruiting in its cycle. 🌴🌴 blessings from the caribe.
“A new Regeneration Movement, described by many as the next stage of organics and agroecology, has connected the dots between our toxic food system and global warming, pointing out that industrial food, farming and land management, when you look at its total carbon footprint, generates a full 44-57 percent of all global greenhouse gas emissions." — Ronnie Cummins, Regeneration International ・・・ #repost @regenerationinternational
This Chile is almost ready to harvest! Little by little we are securing our food supply. Planting our way out of crisis.

Our first harvest. Yucca. 1 year after propagating through cuttings. We love the tropics. 🌱 The most impressive health benefits of yucca include its ability to boost the immune system, improve healing rates, boost heart health, optimize digestion, reduce cholesterol levels, ease arthritic pain, prevent the development of diabetes, improve cognition, and aid in skin and eye care. @organicfacts
